What is "SEXY"? | Edmonton Boudoir Photography
You know I'm a mom right? I have a little boy who is my world and since becoming a parent 2 years ago, I have learned that being a parent changes how you view the world. Have you heard of Glennon Doyle? One of my best friends recently finished reading her book, ’Love Warrior’ and won't shut up about it. She shared this with me and it really resonated:
Glennon Doyle sets the scene, she's going about her morning and her daughter who is about 8 stops her, and asks her what "sexy" is.
Now Glennon is eloquent and quick on her feet, if it had been me I'd have looked like a deer in the headlights thinking "Fuuuuuuuck!!" Then rambled on about feminism or something until she slowly backed away.
Luckily, Doyle writes:
"I think sexy is a grown-up word to describes a person who's confident that she is already exactly who she was made to be. A sexy woman knows herself and she likes the way she looks, thinks and feels. She doesn't try to change to match anybody else. She's a good friend to herself, kind and patient. And she knows how to use her words to tell people she trusts about what's going on inside of her - her fears and anger, love, dreams, the mistakes, and needs.
When she's angry she expresses her anger in healthy ways. When she's joyful, she does the same thing. She doesn't hide her true self because she is not ashamed.
When two people are sexy enough to be brave and kind with each other, that's love. Sexy is more about how you feel than how you look. Real sexy is letting your true self come out of hiding and find love in safe places. That kind of sexy is good, really good, because we all want and need love more than anything else." - Glennon Doyle Melton, Love Warrior
She nailed it right?
Sexy is authenticity. Sexy is owning who you are and not giving a fuck if anyone likes it or not. Sexy is recognizing your failures but not dwelling on it because you know that it doesn't define you.
This is my #1 goal as a boudoir photographer, to show you that you are perfectly imperfect just as you are.
Let's work together - build each other up and work towards being sexy confident women. Starting on the inside.
